In total, Ukraine reported 32 ballistic missiles, 28 cruise missiles, 11 other types of missiles, and 450 attack drones used in the overnight attacks, which struck facilities across multiple regions, including Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia.
Writing on the social media platform X, Zelensky highlighted the particularly critical heating situation in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Lozova in the Kharkiv region, stressing the humanitarian impact of the strikes during harsh winter conditions.
“Each such Russian strike confirms that attitudes in Moscow have not changed: they continue to bet on war and the destruction of Ukraine, and they do not take diplomacy seriously”, Zelensky wrote. He added that the work of Ukraine’s negotiating team will be adjusted accordingly in response to the escalation.
The attacks occurred shortly before NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte visited Kyiv to meet Zelensky and address the national parliament, underscoring the international dimension of the conflict.
A new round of peace talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday and Thursday, aiming to explore diplomatic solutions despite the ongoing escalation on the ground.
The latest missile and drone strikes mark a significant intensification of attacks on Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure, further straining the country’s resources and highlighting the challenges faced by civilians in winter.
