The figure represents a 14.5 percent year-on-year increase and is broadly in line with 2019 levels. Mainland Chinese visitors accounted for 72.8 percent of the total, followed by Hong Kong with 18.4 percent, Taiwan with 2.4 percent, and other international travelers with 6.4 percent.
According to the Public Security Police Force, several new facilitation measures were rolled out this year. These include expanding the scope of eligible users for the “cooperative self-service clearance channel,” granting qualified Hong Kong permanent residents access to iris recognition e-gates, allowing eligible foreign nationals to clear customs via the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge without leaving their vehicles, and extending self-service e-gate registration to travelers from nine countries.
Authorities are also working with mainland counterparts to implement document-free
clearance at the Hengqin Port self-service channel, targeted for launch in the fourth quarter.
Coinciding with the National Day holiday, Macau recorded 673,000 border crossings on October 1st, up 8.5 percent year-on-year. The Border Gate checkpoint was the busiest, handling 51.5 percent of the total. Visitor arrivals for the day exceeded 140,000.
The police reinforced manpower at all checkpoints and coordinated with mainland and Hong Kong authorities to ensure smooth and safe holiday operations by opening additional channels and strengthening crowd management.
