A priest for more than two decades, Jesuit James Martin has already granted thousands of blessings — on rosaries, on babies, on houses, on statues of saints, on brides and grooms.
But never before has he been allowed to bless a same-sex couple — until last Monday (18), when Pope Francis announced the permission for these blessings, in a historic statement.
On Tuesday morning (18), Damian Steidl Jack, 44, and her husband, Jason Steidl Jack, 38, stood before Martin in a living room in Manhattan, New York. The couple, a little late due to the slowness of the subway, were dressed casually. Damian, a floral designer, complimented Martin on the Christmas tree’s pine scent.
