North Korea says it has manufactured first spy satellite

During a visit to the North Korean aerospace agency on Tuesday, once again accompanied by his daughter Ju Ae, the North Korean leader stressed that it is crucial to acquire a surveillance system, based in space, in the face of US-led security threats, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

Pyongyang maintains that the weapons tests it has carried out, including the first test launch of a solid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile designed to hit US mainland territory last week, is a response to joint military exercises between Washington and allies in the region, South Korea and Japan.

At the aerospace agency, Kim said that military reconnaissance is crucial for the country to effectively use North Korean methods of war deterrence, according to KCNA.

Kim also noted that “military reconnaissance satellite No. 1” was built in April and called for efforts to speed up the final preparations for it to be launched. The date, however, has not yet been disclosed.
