Sweden holds the largest wooden hotel ever

The new Wood Hotel by Elite was built in the center of Skellefteå, in Swedish Lapland.

The 20-story, 75-meter-tall building is made almost entirely from spruce and pine from the surrounding forests and was designed as a tribute to the city’s history of forestry and wood construction.

The hotel has 205 minimalist Scandinavian-style rooms and suites, with prices starting at 170 euros per night, lined with wood and with large windows that light up the space and open up a panoramic view over the city and the surrounding natural landscape.

In addition to the Vana Spa, located on the top floor, with an outdoor pool and sauna, the Wood Hotel has three restaurants: one Asian-influenced, one Italian, and another serving international cuisine with a focus on local products.

Until the end of March, the hotel is part of a five-day/four-night program by the adventure travel agency Off the Map Travel.

As part of the experience, guests are invited to create their own gin at an award-winning distillery using locally sourced ingredients; walking in the snow; to see the aurora borealis through a walk along the trails that leave the hotel; or practicing Nordic skiing – the region has slopes for all levels of experience.
