Billy Kenny is far from being a famous name in world football, but he has become one of Everton’s great hopes. In the 1992/93 season, still young, he started to show signs in the first team, but two years later he put an end to his career due to the consumption of alcohol and drugs.
“I had never had a beer before joining the Everton first team. It was kind of a pattern. I felt like I had to fit in with the team because I was just a kid at the time. It was then that I drank alcohol and used cocaine for 25 years without stopping. It was non-stop. I’m surprised you’re still alive. I would just get up, consume, have two days of drinking, three days of drinking, two days of sleep, eat Chinese food and go back to the same”, he declared in an interview with the Liverpool Echo.
“The worst part for me was getting my mum and dad into this because I was completely out of my mind. Now, when I think about what I put my mom and dad through… I was selfish. I just wanted booze and drugs. That’s my biggest regret and it won’t go away: what I did to my father and mother. My dad loves football, but there was a time when he couldn’t leave the house because they asked for me everywhere he went: ‘Is Billy okay?’ It killed him, “he recalled.
