Zelensky says it was “a year of pain, sadness, faith and togetherness”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today marked one year since the invasion of Russia with a message to Ukrainians in which he described the last 12 months as “a year of pain, sadness, faith and unity”.

“On February 24th, millions of us made a choice. Not a white flag, but a blue and yellow flag [of Ukraine]. Not to run away, but to face. Confront the enemy. Resist and fight,” he added.

The Ukrainian leader underlined that “it was a year of pain, sadness, faith and unity.

“And this is a year of our invincibility, we know that this will be the year of our victory”, stressed Zelenski in a video message published on the Telegram messaging platform.

In another message also published today on his website, the official said he had met with senior army officials to discuss weapons production in the country.

“We addressed the issue of production and supply of ammunition and weapons. Of course, I cannot publicly reveal the details of this matter. But this is significant work. And I am pleased to hear at the meeting of the military high command that even under these conditions we have the appropriate potential, ”he highlighted.

Russia started the war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, with a large-scale invasion, after having concentrated thousands of troops along the borders with the neighboring country.

The number of civilian and military casualties is unknown, but several sources, including the UN, have admitted that it will be considerably high.

At the end of September, Russia formalized in internal legislation the annexation of the regions of Kherson, Zaporijia, Donetsk and Lugansk, after having done the same in 2014, with Crimea.

Neither Kiev nor the broader international community recognizes Russian authority in the five annexed regions.
