Biden and Lula will discuss democracy in the US, says White House

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, said that he “can’t wait” to receive his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in Washington, next February 10, to “further strengthen the close relationship” between the countries.

The statement was released this Tuesday (31) by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, who confirmed that the two leaders will discuss the promotion of democracy. “During the meeting at the White House, the two presidents will discuss the unwavering support of the United States for Brazilian democracy and how the two countries can continue to work together to promote inclusion and democratic values in the region and around the world, especially at the Summit of the Democracy in March 2023,” the US government said.

In addition, the presidents will also discuss how the United States and Brazil can continue to work together to address common challenges, such as combating climate change, protecting food security, encouraging economic development, strengthening peace and security, and management of regional migration”.

According to the Biden government, the purpose of the PT’s trip to Washington is “to further strengthen the close relationship between the US and Brazil”.

Lula will visit North American territory on February 10, in the third international trip by the PT member since he took office, on January 1. So far, he has been to Argentina and Uruguay, in addition to having planned trips to China and Portugal in the coming months.
