Amazon is preparing to lay off 10,000 employees, according to The New York Times, which would make the company the last American tech giant to respond to the crisis with a plan to cut jobs.
These thousands of jobs would represent less than 1% of the payroll of the group, which had 1.6 million employees worldwide at the end of 2021.
An important part of the workforce is temporary workers, hired for periods of high activity, for example during the holiday season.
According to the newspaper, the volume could change. But if confirmed, it would be the most important job cuts in the company’s history.
Contacted by AFP, Amazon had no comment at this time.
The company had already announced two weeks ago that it would freeze hiring for its offices.
Last Wednesday, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced the dismissal of 11,000 people, 13% of its staff.
