Ukraine cuts ties with North Korea
In a video message, Zelensky said that North Korea’s recognition of the so-called “independence of the areas temporarily occupied by Russia in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in the east of the country does not even require an answer, because it is very obvious where Ukraine is heading and where the occupants are headed.
North Korea on Wednesday recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine, joining Russia and Syria, the North Korean embassy in Moscow announced.
The acknowledgment note was delivered to Russia’s ambassador in Pyongyang, a spokesman for North Korea’s diplomatic representation in Moscow told Russian news agency Interfax.
Like Syria, North Korea is among the countries that have refused to criticize Russia and have expressed support for Moscow in the war with Ukraine.
Syria recognized the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk on 29 June.
