The speech of the commander of the Brazilian Army, General Edson Leal Pujol, urging the military not to be part of politics and not to let it contaminate the barracks, marks a new phase in the relationship between the uniforms and the Jair Bolsonaro Government.
It is not a rupture, but a signal that was previously only made internally about the discomfort of members of the High Command of the Army and the other Forces with the amalgam that was created between active service and government.
As one brigadier, member of the Force most skeptical of the ostentatious presence in government since the 2018 campaign, says, the whole problem was created by the military themselves when embarking on the bolsonaro’s followers canoe.
