Terrorist groups invade Mocímboa da Praia Port, in Cabo Delgado

The invasion was at dawn and there were clashes between armed groups and government forces. “There are several of our colleagues in the marine force who died,” a Mozambican Army source told Lusa

Armed groups that have been carrying out attacks in Cabo Delgado invaded the Port of Mocímboa da Praia earlier today, a source from the Mozambican army told Lusa. “There are several of our colleagues in the marine force who have died,” said the source, adding that there were clashes between government forces and the group that resulted in an unknown number of deaths and injuries.

According to the source, in the port facilities of that village, located about 345 kilometers from the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado, the attackers, who claim a ‘jihadist’ cause against the authorities, managed to install a point of resistance.

The attack on the Port of Mocímboa da Praia follows others that have been recorded in recent days in several villages in the area, with frequent clashes between the Defense and Security Forces and insurgents, classified as a terrorist threat.
