A child died and three other people were seriously injured in an attack on a bus in the Mutamira area, close to National Road Number 1, the main road in Mozambique, local sources told Lusa today.
A bus from the carrier Etrago was reportedly shot several times around 6:00 am on Friday, just minutes after leaving Muxúnguè, in the Chibabava district, where he had stayed overnight due to insecurity that has affected the region since August last year.
“We only heard shots, which hit the child who died. Three adults were also injured and were later rescued to the rural hospital in Muxúnguè, ”said Lusa Joaquim Timóteo, who was traveling on the bus today.
The bus, which traveled from Maputo to Nampula, continued on after the injured passengers were rescued at the rural hospital in Muxúnguè, the source explained. The attack took place in an area with no history of vehicle ambushes, but not far from Mutindiri, an area close to the main Mozambican road that frequently records armed incursions.
