Venezuela with new record of daily contagions confirmed

Venezuela on Thursday set a new daily record for those infected with coronavirus by identifying 701 new cases in 24 hours, bringing the number of patients with the new coronavirus to 17,860.

The record number of daily contagious people was announced by the Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, who also confirmed four more deaths, bringing the number of deaths in the country to 158.

The Capital District, with 332 new cases, was the region of the country that registered the highest number of infected in the last 24 hours, followed by the states of La Guaira (66), Miranda (65), Zúlia (44), Táchira ( 35), Anzoátegui (32), Mérida (24), Lara (16), Carabobo (14), Nova Sparta (14), Trujillo (4), Apure (3), Sucre (1) and Barinas (1).

In addition to the 601 community cases, 50 imported cases were registered, of Venezuelans returning to their country, 44 of them from Colombia, four from Peru and two from Ecuador.

As for the deaths, four are men, two from Distrito Capital (70 and 91 years old), one from Guárico (85 years old) and one from Miranda (70 years old).

On the other hand, 10,666 patients are also recovered.

The Vice President of Venezuela also announced that there was a meeting between members of the Presidential Commission for the Prevention of covid-19 with representatives of the Pan American Health Organization, to move forward with a cooperation agreement signed with the National Assembly.

That deal, he said, will allow the executive to access $ 10 million (€ 8.55 million) for protective equipment for health personnel and to fight the pandemic locally.

Venezuela has been on alert since March 13, which allows the executive to enact “drastic decisions” to combat the pandemic.

Only trades for products and services considered as basic and essential are open daily, according to a schedule posted by the authorities.

In the Venezuelan state of Miranda, purchases are only allowed twice a week, according to the last number on the Identity Card.

National and international flights are restricted until August 12, and the population is prevented from traveling between the different regions of the country.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 667,000 deaths and infected more than 17 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the France-Presse news agency (AFP).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
