More than half a million Hong Kong residents in China participated between Saturday and Sunday in the primaries organized by the pro-democracy parties to nominate their candidates for the September parliamentary elections, organizers said today.
The participation registered in the unofficial vote was high, despite warnings from the authorities that anyone who participated could be violating the new security law imposed by Beijing on the old territory under British administration.
