Many countries that have been successful in combating the new Coronavirus are witnessing an increase in cases due to religious or leisure crowds, or in closed places, such as night clubs or dormitories, since the restrictions relaxed, officials from the World Health Organization said ( WHO) yesterday, Monday.
Yesterday, South Korea said for the first time that it is dealing with a “second wave” of infections in the outskirts of Seoul, caused by small but persistent outbreaks, resulting from a holiday celebrated in May.
“Right now, there are many countries that have been successful in suppressing transmission and putting transmission from person to person at a low level that is starting to see an increase in cases,” said Maria Van Kerkhove, epidemiologist and WHO’s chief technical officer for the pandemic, citing South Korea as one of them.
