Roland Garros without an audience is “absolutely” out of the question

The holding of the Roland Garros tournament, the second Grand Slam event, from September 21 to October 11, behind closed doors is “absolutely” out of the question, said the president of the French Tennis Federation this Wednesday.

Asked about the possibility of the tournament moving forward without fans, Bernard Giudicelli was adamant, “absolutely” rejecting the idea, even though the measure was already announced as the final for another Grand Slam, the US Open. According to the federative president, ticket sales will have to resume between the end of June and the beginning of July, for a tournament that already has new dates: from September 21 to October 11.

Initially scheduled for the period between May 24 and June 7, the most important clay court tournament on the world tennis calendar was suspended due to the health crisis triggered by the covid-19 pandemic.
