More 612 deaths and 17.110 infected in Brasil.

Brazil registered an additional 612 deaths and 17,110 infected by the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, and a possible relationship of 3,981 deaths with the covid-19 is still being investigated, the executive said today.

The South American country totals 43,332 deaths and 867,624 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic, which arrived in Brazil at the end of February.

According to the Ministry of Health, the lethality of covid-19 in Brazil remains at 5%, with the country recovering 388,492 infected patients and 435,800 patients are still being monitored.

The executive also informed that Brazil has 20.6 deaths and 412.9 cases of covid-19 for every 100 thousand inhabitants, in a country with an estimated population of 210 million people.

The state of São Paulo is the focus of the pandemic in the country, officially concentrating 178,202 people diagnosed and 10,694 fatalities.

Then there are the federative units in Rio de Janeiro, which account for 79,572 infected and 7,672 deaths, and Ceará, which today has 76,748 confirmed cases and 4,861 deaths.

In the middle of a pandemic in the South American country, for the third consecutive Sunday, the city of São Paulo was the scene of demonstrations in favor of democracy, against the federal government, led by President Jair Bolsonaro, and against racism.

The protest was organized by cheerleaders from four soccer clubs in the country (Corinthians, Palmeiras, São Paulo and Santos), as well as by social movements, such as Somos Democracia and Frente Povo Sem Medo.

According to local media, 4,300 Military Police officers stepped up their policing in Sunday’s protests.

Elsewhere in the city of São Paulo, Bolsonaro supporters have also focused on the government, but to a lesser extent.A court ruling prohibited contrary demonstrations from taking place in the same place, after supporters and opponents of the current executive clashed on Avenida Paulista, in downtown São Paulo, at the end of May.

On Saturday night, about 30 supporters of Jair Bolsonaro caused controversy by launching fireworks against the Federal Supreme Court (STF) building, an instance that has often been the target of unconstitutional and anti-democratic attacks by the electorate of the current head of state.

According to the local press, the action lasted at least five minutes, and in addition to the fireworks, supporters of the President launched offenses and threats to the Supreme Judges.

In light of this, the Brazilian Public Ministry ordered the opening of a police investigation to investigate the attacks against the Supreme Court.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 431,000 deaths and infected more than 7.8 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP. The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
