50 percent of Angolans are under 18

The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, congratulates all children and families for the passing of yet another International Children’s Day, despite the atmosphere of some uncertainty and anxiety that is due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the congratulatory document, which reached the newsroom of Jornal de Angola, children are the majority of the Angolan population, as more than fifty percent are under 18 years of age. This data, it can be read, can never go unnoticed, refers to a group with specific needs at all stages of its development.

The note also indicates that the study on child poverty presented by the National Statistics Institute in 2018 shows that three out of four children under the age of 18 do not have access to at least three of the essential services for their survival and development, namely , nutrition, health, child protection, malaria prevention, education, exposure to the media, housing, water and sanitation.
