The President of the Republic announced this Thursday the renewal of the state of emergency for another 15 days, until the 17th of April. In a communication to the country, transmitted by RTP from the Palace of Belém, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered that “this will be the biggest challenge of the last 45 years” for the country and for the Portuguese.
“Once again, we had all the organs of sovereignty, united and in solidarity, as the Portuguese have been united and in solidarity, in their homes, at work, in serene courage to face the pandemic, knowing that this will be our greatest challenge for past 45 years, why it surpasses us in its origin and its end “, said the head of state.
Marcelo warned that this crisis affects “life and health”, warning that “the economic and social effects will be deeper and more lasting than the longest crises we have ever lived”. “It brutally worsens the poverty of the poorest, the inequalities of the most unequal, the exclusions of the most excluded.”
