The company said the layoffs are part of a broader restructuring plan to “strengthen the organization,” stressing that it does not intend to carry out recurring, across-the-board cuts. In October, Amazon had already eliminated around 14,000 jobs, mainly in administrative and management roles.
According to sources cited by the media, affected employees may apply for other positions within the company, although the number of available roles is limited. Those who are not redeployed will be entitled to severance packages calculated based on length of service.
Since 2022, the technology sector has been going through a prolonged wave of layoffs, with companies such as Amazon, Meta, Google, and Microsoft significantly reducing their workforces. Under the leadership of CEO Andy Jassy, Amazon has also tightened in-office work rules and stepped up cost controls in an effort to adapt the business to a more challenging economic environment.
