“All we’re asking is to have Greenland,” says Trump. He rules out the use of force but wants “immediate negotiations.”

US President attends the World Economic Forum in Davos after threatening to impose tariffs on eight countries unless they negotiate the transfer of Greenland to American sovereignty.

“All we ask is to have Greenland, including the right of ownership and possession, because you need ownership to defend it. You can’t defend it with a lease agreement,” argued Donald Trump at the Davos Economic Forum, referring to the Arctic island as a “big chunk of ice” in the middle of the ocean.

The American president reiterated that the US needs Greenland for reasons of “national strategic security,” but also international security.

“This huge, unprotected island is part of North America.” “It’s part of our territory,” he said.

Trump reiterated the interest in Greenland for security reasons, adding that it is on the Arctic island that the US wants to build the Golden Dome anti-missile system.

“All we want from Denmark, for national and international security and to keep our potential enemies away, is this land where we will build the largest ‘Golden Dome’,” referring to the US project for an anti-missile shield.

Regarding the US ambition to acquire Greenland, Donald Trump addressed Europe and Denmark, saying: “You have a choice: you can say yes, and we will be very grateful. Or you can say no, and we will remember.”
