Following a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed the commitment on social media.
” To support the country’s ambitions, Microsoft is committing US$17.5B—our largest investment ever in Asia—to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI first future.” Nadella stated.
This announcement significantly expands upon Nadella’s previous pledge earlier this year to invest US$3 billion in the country’s AI and cloud capabilities over two years.
Microsoft’s move aligns with a broader trend of global tech giants ramping up operations in India. With the country’s internet user base expected to surpass 900 million by the end of the year, India is rapidly becoming a critical battleground for digital innovation.
