Hakimi’s award comes after a successful season where he helped PSG secure multiple titles, including the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and UEFA Super Cup, France 24 reported. This achievement marks the first time a Moroccan has won the accolade since Mustapha Hadji in 1998 and the first defender since Bwanga Tshimen of Zaire in 1973.
In his acceptance speech, Hakimi expressed pride in the award, dedicating it to all aspiring footballers in Africa who dream of making it professionally. He thanked those who have supported him throughout his journey.
In addition to Hakimi’s recognition, Morocco also celebrated other achievements at the awards. Ghizlane Chebbak was named Women’s Footballer of the Year, while Al-Hilal’s Yassine Bounou was awarded Goalkeeper of the Year. Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie earned the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year title for the third consecutive year, and Cape Verde’s Bubista was honored as Coach of the Year for leading his team to their first World Cup appearance.
