Speaking to the press, Senna Fernandes noted that hotel occupancy during the Macau Grand Prix, which runs from November 13th to 16th, is expected to exceed 90 percent, similar to previous years.
The tourism chief said Macau’s visitor arrivals have steadily climbed since the pandemic, but the number of package tour visitors remains relatively low. She attributed this to changes in travel behavior, with more tourists using social media and online platforms to plan their trips independently.
Senna Fernandes added that many visitors now choose to stay in nearby Hengqin and travel to Macau for sightseeing — a pattern she believes supports tourism cooperation and economic integration between the two regions.
While acknowledging the decline in organized group tours, she emphasized that it does not signal a downturn for travel agencies. Instead, she encouraged the industry to adapt to changing market trends by developing smaller, more personalized products such as family or themed tours to meet evolving traveler preferences.
