Macau’s fireworks festival returns with 10 nations’ teams, including Brazil debut

The 33rd Macau International Fireworks Display Contest will take place from September 6th to October 6th.

Platform - Macau

This year’s competition will feature fireworks companies from 10 countries. Brazil is joining for the first time, along with debut entrants from South Korea, Japan, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. The remaining five teams have previously competed in Macau, underscoring the city’s role as a platform for international exchange.

The displays are scheduled for September 6th, 13th, and 20th, as well as October 1st and 6th, at 9:00 PM and 9:40 PM, off the shore in front of the Macau Tower. Each show will run for approximately 18 minutes. On October 1st, China and Portugal will present a National Day performance, while the grand finale and awards ceremony will take place on October 6th, coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival.

To enhance the viewing experience, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has recommended six prime locations: the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre to the Leisure Area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the waterfront at Macao Science Center, Avenida de Sagres (next to Mandarin Oriental, Macau), Anim’Arte NAM VAN, Caminho Marginal do Lago (next to YOHO Treasure Island Resorts World Hotel), and Avenida do Oceano in Taipa.

A “Fireworks Carnival” will also be held along the Macao Science Center seawall on contest days from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM, featuring food stalls, performances, and games.

For the first time, the event will include an AI creation contest, in addition to the established photography and student drawing competitions, broadening opportunities for public participation. Organizers have also launched an online interactive game with prizes including round-trip tickets between Macau and mainland China.

Traffic controls will be implemented during the event, and the public is advised to follow the arrangements. Any changes to the schedule due to weather will be announced in advance.

Since its launch in 1989, the Macau International Fireworks Display Contest has become a landmark event, strengthening the city’s positioning through the integration of “Tourism + Events.”
