On July 21st, the State Council Information Office held a press conference themed “High-Quality Completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan.” Zhao Chongjiu, Director General of the State Post Bureau, announced that China’s express delivery industry is experiencing strong growth, with daily parcel collections now surpassing 500 million. This means nearly 6,000 parcels enter the delivery system every second, and the highest single-day collection volume even set a new record of 729 million parcels.

Data reveals that during the implementation of the Five-Year Plan, the postal industry achieved significant growth. Industry revenue surged from RMB1.1 trillion in 2020 to RMB1.7 trillion in 2024, representing an average annual growth rate of 11.3 percent.

Express delivery volumes jumped from 83.36 billion parcels to 175.08 billion parcels, with an average annual increase of approximately 20 percent. This sustained growth has ensured China’s express delivery volume has remained number one globally for 11 consecutive years.

Zhao Chongjiu highlighted that ongoing technological innovation, including the widespread application of drones and artificial intelligence in warehousing, transportation, and delivery, has significantly boosted industry efficiency.

The increasing economies of scale within the express delivery sector are evident, making it a crucial force in driving consumption, expanding domestic demand, and stabilizing economic growth. He emphasized that sending and receiving parcels has not only become an integral part of people’s daily lives but also plays a vital role in promoting industrial development and regional economic coordination.
