Ukraine was invaded on February 24 by Russia, an action condemned by the international community, especially the West, which responded with financial and military aid to Ukraine and unprecedented economic and political sanctions against Moscow.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, is the Personality of the Year 2022 for Time magazine. The magazine awarded the distinction Wednesday to the Ukrainian President as well as the “spirit of Ukraine” for the resilience the country has shown in the face of Russia’s invasion.
