China assured yesterday that it is “increasingly closer” to the center in the governance of international affairs, saying that the “great threat to the world order” is those who “insist on confrontation and intimidation”, in a reference to the United States.
“The world is going through unprecedented changes and the current historical trend is towards peace, development and cooperation, but there are forces that insist on maintaining a Cold War mentality,” Ma Zhaoxu, Chinese vice minister of foreign affairs, told a press conference. held on the sidelines of the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), taking place this week in Beijing.
In an implicit allusion to the United States and its allies, Ma said that there are forces that “create cliques, draw ideological lines, incite confrontation and base their foreign policy on hegemonic power”.
