More than 600 civilian bodies exhumed in Kharkiv

Ukrainian authorities have already exhumed more than 600 bodies of civilians in the Kharkiv region, in the north-east of the country, after the withdrawal of Russian troops, said Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky.

“We have already exhumed over 600 bodies of dead in the Kharkiv region. We were not able to identify them immediately”, explained the minister.

“We understand that as we approach victory, new war crimes committed by the occupiers are revealed”, he stressed.

Monastyrsky noted that the authorities faced the same situation in all territories liberated by Russia, referring to the “torture chambers left behind by the Russians”.

There is a problem, he said, noting that the identification of bodies is done through DNA analysis (deoxyribonucleic acid), which must be carried out in special laboratories.

“Our international partners helped us get this done quickly, but we understand that this work takes weeks, sometimes months, to realize exactly who was tortured,” he added.

The leader of the Ukrainian Internal Administration also warned that “any occupied territory means dozens of tortured civilians, prisoners (…)”, saying that this is what the country “faces every day”.

The military offensive launched on February 24 by Russia in Ukraine has already caused more than 13 million people to flee – more than six million internally displaced people and more than 7.6 million to European countries – according to the latest data. of the UN, which ranks this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for the security of Russia – was condemned by the generality of the international community, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing it on Russia. of political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented as confirmed since the beginning of the war 6,306 dead civilians and 9,602 wounded, stressing that these numbers are far below the real ones.
