Mike Pompeo calls for the “free world” to triumph over Chinese “new Tyranny”

Lusa

The head of U.S. diplomacy, Mike Pompeo, today called on the “free world” to triumph over the “new tyranny”, according to the secretary of state, by communist China, after the closing of the Chinese consulate in Houston.

“Today’s China is increasingly authoritarian in the interior of the country and more aggressive in its hostility to freedom everywhere,” Mike Pompeo said today in a speech at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California (eastern), quoted by AFP.

In a speech with cold war-like rhetoric against the Soviet Union, the U.S. Secretary of State made a rare attack of violence against the President of one of the world’s major powers, Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Mike Pompeo accused the Chinese President of being “a sincere supporter of a failing totalitarian ideology”, making only reference to his duties at the time secretary general of the Chinese Communist Party.

The speech resumes U.S. President Donald Trump’s strategy of closing against China, which he calls a “threat” or a “danger.”

Pompeo’s intervention follows the closing of the Washington-imposed consulate in Houston, Texas, fostering a new level in the escalation between the two major rival powers.
Beijing has already promised against the unprecedented decision since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1979.

Chinese diplomacy today once again denounced the “calibre of the year” malicious that “demole the bridge of friendship between the Chinese and the Americans”.

“We closed the Chinese consulate in Houston because it was a turntable for espionage and intellectual property theft,” Mike Pompeo said today, quoted by AFP, without clearly specifying the facts against the diplomats.

The secretary of state of Donald Trump’s administration considers that “the time has come for free nations that refer to action”, calling for a “new alliance of democracies”.

The goal of the move to action should be to “change the attitude” of Beijing, he argued, without advocating regime change.

“If we are bow now, our grandchildren can be at the mercy of the Chinese Communist Party, who are the first challenge of the free world”, he said, noting that the Chinese President “has no vocation to eternally sow tyranny in China and abroad”, unless he is allowed to do so.

China announced on Wednesday that it was forced by the United States to close its consulate in the U.S. city of Houston, in a move described by Beijing as “provocative.”

“China condemns this outrageous and lacking action,” Chinese diplomacy spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Chinese consulate in Houston, United States, was closed “to protect the intellectual property and private information of the Americans,” a State Department spokeswoman said the same day, following a strong protest from Beijing.

Today, China denied that the consulate in Houston had stolen intellectual property or information from U.S. companies, and returned to “promise retaliation” for the closure of its diplomatic representation.
