Billion dollars company fired 400 people with a video call

In 2018, Bird became the fastest unicorn ever. It came to be valued at more than a billion dollars just a few months after it started sharing scooters in the United States and then in Europe. But the new coronavirus is wiping out the company’s accounts, to the point of having fired more than 400 people last Friday. What nobody expected was that employees would be sent to the street via a video call.

Everything happened through the Zoom platform: Travis Vander Zanden, a former Uber administrator who founded Bird, set up a meeting with hundreds of workers. But nobody knew who was on the list and there was no possibility to ask questions, contrary to what usually happened on this mobility platform.
