Traffic partially resumes after train derails in central China

Xinhua

Railway traffic resumed Wednesday in the city of Chenzhou in central China’s Hunan Province after a train derailed Monday.

A train from Beijing to south China’s tourist city of Sanya went through the accident site on the Beijing-Guangzhou railway line around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. It was the first train to pass the site after the accident that killed one and injured 127.

Although traffic has gradually picked up, the normal operation of trains along this railway line still needs time, according to China Railway Guangzhou Group.

From 11 a.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday, 43 trains on this railway line will be suspended and 10 others will take detour routes, the group said.

The Beijing-Guangzhou railway is a major north-south railway line in China.

The derailment happened in Yongxing County around noon Monday when the train from Jinan to Guangzhou ran into a landslide. Five carriages derailed and the power generation car caught on fire.
