China accuses U.S. of distorting Its nuclear policy and seeking to resume nuclear testing

China has firmly rejected U.S. allegations that it conducted a nuclear test in 2020, declaring these claims as "an excuse" to justify a possible return to U.S. nuclear testing.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian criticized the United States for “persistently distorting and smearing” China’s nuclear policy, asserting that such accusations are unfounded, the South China Morning Post reported.

This response follows remarks made by Thomas DiNanno, U.S. Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, during a press conference in Geneva, where he suggested that China’s actions could be a catalyst for a renewed nuclear test capability in the U.S.

Beijing contends that the U.S. is attempting to divert attention from its own responsibilities regarding nuclear disarmament. The Chinese government emphasizes that it remains committed to its no-first-use policy regarding nuclear weapons.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the United States currently has 5,177 nuclear warheads, raising concerns in Beijing about the U.S.’s significant stockpile and its implications for global nuclear stability. China insists that the U.S. should focus on its disarmament obligations rather than framing China’s policies as a threat to justify its own military actions.
