Sam Hou Fai calls on local media to foster stability

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai hosted a luncheon today for the leaders of local Chinese-language media, urging the press to support the government in implementing central strategies

Emphasizing the media’s crucial role as a bridge between the authorities and the public, Sam Hou Fai encouraged the press to accurately reflect public sentiment and offer constructive advice. He further called on them to foster social stability by promoting patriotism and positive energy.

Reflecting on the past year, Sam Hou Fai noted that the SAR Government, backed by the Central Government, has successfully implemented President Xi Jinping’s directives.

He commended the media for their professional coverage of major events, crediting them with helping global audiences understand the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems” in Macao.

Sam Hou Fai highlighted the Central Government’s recognition of these achievements, attributing them to the collective efforts of residents and the press in advancing a “Law-based, Vital, Cultural, and Happy” Macao.

Looking ahead, the government is aligning its strategies with the National 15th Five-Year Plan while drafting Macao’s 3rd Five-Year Plan.

The administration will focus on administrative reform, economic diversification, and Macao-Hengqin integration, all while firmly upholding the principle of “Patriots Administering Macao” and safeguarding national security.

Sam Hou Fai encouraged the media to spotlight stories of endeavor from both the mainland and the SAR.

Through objective reporting that showcases China’s commitment to peace and Macao’s inclusivity, the press can effectively “tell the stories of China and Macao” to the world.

In his closing remarks, Sam Hou Fai pledged to safeguard press rights as stipulated in the Basic Law and the Press Law.

He committed to facilitating reporting activities and supporting professional development to ensure that information about Macao reaches a broader audience.
