“Rebuilding the country is not a bad thing,” Trump stated in an interview with The Atlantic, one day after U.S. military forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in Caracas for trial in the United States. He concluded that Venezuela is “in bankruptcy” and described the country as a “catastrophe in every aspect.”
In the interview, Trump also reaffirmed the idea of a similar intervention in Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark long coveted by the United States. “We definitely need Greenland,” he said, noting that the island is “surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships.”
Earlier today, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States will work with Venezuelans “if they make good decisions.” The Venezuelan military recognized Delcy Rodríguez as the interim President today.
On Saturday, Donald Trump declared that Rodríguez was willing to cooperate with the United States, but the Vice President responded that Venezuela is ready to defend itself.
