Curated by Clara Brito of Macau and Beijing-based Gu Zhenqing, the exhibition is jointly organized by the Plus 853 Cultural Association and Tomorrow’s Heritage, with support from Macau’s Cultural Development Fund. The Zhuhai edition runs through November 17th and showcases photographic works from five women artists: Mina Ao, Margarida Gouveia, Ting Song, Xing Danwen, and O Zhang.
Exploring identity and transformation through a feminist lens
The exhibition focuses on themes of identity, resistance, and cultural transformation, engaging with contemporary feminist discourse. The works present a visual narrative shaped by documentation, introspection, and critique, challenging dominant narratives of womanhood and cultural belonging.
Among the featured artists, Ting Song is recognized as a pioneer in digital art. She was the first crypto artist collected by a national museum in China and created the country’s first AI and NFT artworks to be auctioned. Her series The Counter-Cyborg Cathedral and Bazaar marked Asia’s first blockchain-based human–AI collaboration. Ting has been named to Forbes 30 Under 30 and Gen.T Asia lists, and appeared in Chanel’s “Dare” campaign, underscoring her role in redefining digital femininity and identity.
Xing Danwen, Mina Ao, and Margarida Gouveia contribute works that reflect on symbolic and material violence while offering deeply personal perspectives on autonomy and identity. O Zhang highlights the legacies of China’s adoption policies, documenting the experiences of over 55,000 Chinese girls adopted into American families, raising questions of cultural integration and belonging.
