The Seoul Central District Court held a hearing yesterday, on August 11th, to review the arrest warrant request for Kim. The court signed the warrant that evening, citing the possibility of her destroying evidence.
The independent counsel team handling Kim’s corruption case had requested the court to approve her arrest last week on suspicion of violating the Capital Market Act, the Political Funds Act, and the Act on Aggravated Punishment, etc., of Specific Crimes.
Kim’s court hearing lasted for more than four hours. After the hearing, she was sent to the Seoul Detention Center and subsequently taken into custody.
Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested on July 10th by a separate independent counsel team investigating a case of sedition and treason. He is currently being held at the Seoul Detention Center.
