Runners participate in the 2025 Sands China Macao International 10K on March 16, totalling nearly 10,000 athletes from 40 countries and regions. This year’s 10K was an official activity of the “Culture City of East Asia 2025 – Macao, China” programme of events.

On March 16, the 2025 Sands China Macao International 10K drew nearly 10,000 athletes from 40 countries and regions to Macau.

Participants took part in either the competitive 10K race or a Fun Run, highlighting the city’s rising status as a hub for sports tourism.

Organized by the Macao SAR Government, Sands China Ltd., and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, the event is a key part of the “Culture City of East Asia 2025 – Macao, China” programme.

The race route started at Sai Van Lake Square and culminated at the Olympics Sports Centre – Stadium.

Runners enjoyed a scenic course that traversed Macao’s picturesque coastline, crossed the iconic Sai Van Bridge, and, for the first time, ventured onto the Cotai Strip — an enhancement that reinforces Macau’s appeal as a premier sports destination.

Notably, the event witnessed record-breaking performances; Kenyan athletes Vincent Kibet Langat and Betty Sigei clinched the overall titles in the men’s and women’s races, while local star Wang Kun set a new Macau record in his category.

Beyond the competitive races, the event featured engaging community activities. The Sands 10K Presents: The FUNkiest Costume Award encouraged participants to embrace the ‘Ocean Run’ theme, raising awareness about marine conservation through creative costumes.

Additionally, Sands China organized a group run for 550 participants — including team members and representatives from local NGOs such as Macau Special Olympics and Richmond Fellowship of Macau — to promote the inclusive idea that “sports know no boundaries.”

Pre-race training sessions and warm-up events led by Sands Cares Ambassadors further prepared these groups for the challenge, reinforcing community involvement and healthy living.

The event also provided food and beverage discounts for participants to enjoy at select businesses on Rua das Estalagens, supporting local SMEs and community revitalisation while strengthening Macau’s local economy.

This year’s 10K adds to Sands China’s longstanding commitment to sports events that contribute to transforming Macau into a “City of Sports.”

The company’s diverse portfolio of international sporting events, from badminton to exhibition basketball matches, continues to attract global athletes and spectators — fostering international exchange and boosting Macau tourism.
