Chinese hospitals have recorded 83,000 deaths since the end of the ‘zero covid’ strategy

Chinese hospitals recorded 83,150 deaths caused by infection by covid-19, between December 8, when it began to dismantle the ‘zero covid’ strategy, and February 9, according to official data released today.

About 90% of deaths were caused by the worsening of an underlying disease combined with infection with the new coronavirus, detailed the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of China.

The remaining deaths occurred mainly from respiratory failure caused by the coronavirus, which spread rapidly across the country during December and January, after Beijing ended almost three years of the ‘zero cases’ policy of covid-19.
