September was the fourth hottest month ever in the world, on par with 2016, reveals this Thursday the Copernicus System, the European Commission’s project to monitor global temperatures.
Globally, recorded temperatures exceeded the average by 0.35°C over the period 1991-2020, with especially warm temperatures in South America, Australia, the Middle East and the northern coast of Siberia.
“After a summer of extremes with record temperatures, drought and fires in most of Europe, the month of September brought temperatures below average in Europe, but globally it was one of the hottest Septembers”, highlighted the researcher of the Copernicus System Freja. Vamborg, quoted in a statement.
