North Korea launches two more missiles in ‘retaliation’ against US and South Korea
The last missiles were launched 22 minutes apart, landing between the Korean peninsula and Japan, the head of South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.
The details of the flight were similar to Japanese assessments announced by Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada, who confirmed that the missiles did not reach Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
The deployment of the US aircraft carrier came in response to Pyongyang’s earlier launch of a nuclear-capable missile over Japan.
The latest missile launches suggest North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is determined to continue testing weapons designed to boost his nuclear arsenal in defiance of international sanctions.
