Lionel Messi receives 2020 ‘Peace and Sport’ award
Argentine footballer Lionel Messi, of FC Barcelona, received the ‘Peace and Sport’ 2020 award, which rewards athletes for ‘fair play’ and social commitment, today announced the non-profit organization ‘Peace and Sport’ on Facebook
“Lionel Messi’s achievements are of enormous importance. We believe that it is an example to be followed when it comes to ‘fair play’ on the pitch and that its social commitment has a lot of impact on today’s society, ”said Prince Alberto of Monaco, who announced the winner of this year’s prize.
The Argentine international revealed the “enormous joy” for having been recognized and stressed that “footballers have responsibilities towards the youngest”, who look to athletes “as models”.
The FC Barcelona striker also highlighted the role of the ‘Leo Messi Foundation’: “We have been able to help many people since the foundation was created. One of my goals, and also for those who work with me, was to help the most disadvantaged. We want to continue to do so for a long time. ”
Messi succeeds another footballer, French international Blaise Matuidi, who received the award last year.
