Belgium close to the capacity limit for intensive care

One in five tests for the new coronavirus in Belgium is positive and the reproduction rate is 1.487.

Belgium is on the verge of breaking the 1,000-patient Covid-19 barrier in intensive care and could reach a maximum of 2,000 within two weeks, Belgian health officials announced on Monday.

“In the next four days, by the end of the week, we must overcome the barrier of a thousand patients in intensive care. If there is no change in the curve of our behavior, we should reach, in 15 days, the 2,000 patients in intensive care, which is our maximum capacity ”, said in a press conference, the federal spokesman for Health, Yves van Laethem.

According to the data released, Belgium recorded an average of 12,491 cases in the last seven days, for a total of 321,031 since the start of the pandemic, and a total of 757 Covid-19 patients admitted to intensive care.
