Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem, number three in the world, today became the champion of the United States Open, according to the ‘major’ of the season, after beating the German Alexander Zverev, in five ‘sets’, in the final in Flushing Meadows.
The 27-year-old tennis player from Vienna needed four hours and two minutes to beat the young German, who is in seventh place in the world ranking, in what was his first final in New York, for the partial of 2 -6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and 7-6 (8-6).
After recovering from a disadvantage of two sets to zero, Dominic Thiem managed to turn the match around and ended up winning his first Grand Slam title, in what was his fourth final of a major, becoming still the only Austrian to win in New York.
