Staff from the Timorese Special Police Unit today exploded an old explosive device found by the population of the Manleuana neighborhood, in the western part of the city of Dili.
“The population had found an explosive and informed the suco police [administrative region] that they, in turn, contacted the command of the National Police of Timor-Leste,” a senior police officer told Lusa.
“The Special Police Unit was deployed on the spot and today, safely, they blew up the device,” said the same source.
Residents in the area told Lusa that they heard this morning “a loud bang”.
The origin of the explosive is unknown or how long it was in the neighborhood.
There were no material damages or casualties to be recorded.
