Despite the differences, the national security laws of Hong Kong and Macau “have the same function and purpose”, according to the Office of the Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak.
In a text published yesterday on the secretariat’s website, it reads that the two diplomas aim to “defend national sovereignty, the country’s security and development interests”, as well as “the effective implementation of the stability and longevity of the principle ‘one country, two systems’ ”.
According to the note, the purposes are shared “despite the differences regarding the legislative basis and form in the sphere of security of State defense, the legal, management and enforcement regimes specific to the issue of State security and defense”.
