Macao’s Meteorological and Geophysical Services (SMG) today raised the alert level at 18:00 (11:00 in Lisbon) for what is the first tropical storm of the year to approach the territory.
At 6 pm, when signal 3 was issued, the tropical depression was about 280 kilometers from Macau and headed for the west coast of the Chinese province of Guangdong, according to SMGs, who estimate an intensification of the wind.
Signal 1 had been issued on Friday at 19:00 (12:00 in Lisbon).
SMGs also pointed to a moderate probability of emitting signal 8 in the next few hours, when the cyclone is expected to pass through the closest point to Macau.
