Magic Johnson announced his resignation as the president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers this Tuesday, mentioning his desire to return to the life he had as a wealthy businessman and idolized ex-player before taking over the franchise a little more than two years ago.
The announcement came before the Lakers' last game in their sixth consecutive season with more losses than wins, being out of the playoffs even though they have hired LeBron James before the start of the championship. In addition, the star was being criticized for the failure in the negotiation to hire Anthony Davis during the championship.
"I want to have fun again," Magic said. "I want to go back to being who I was before I took on this job. We're halfway there with LeBron. I think this summer, with that other star coming in, whoever is going to bring him in, I think this team is really going to be in position to contend for a championship with the growth of the young players."
