The Portuguese motorcycle rider Paulo Gonçalves died this Sunday in an accident during his participation in the seventh stage of the Dakar Rally, which is taking place this year in Saudi Arabia.
The 40-year-old suffered a fatal crash at kilometer 276 of the special race, at about 10 am local time (7 am in mainland Portugal). He was already unconscious from a cardiac arrest when the doctors arrived a few minutes later.
After the medical team's efforts to revive the pilot at the scene, Paulo Gonçalves was taken by helicopter to Layla Hospital, where the death was confirmed.
